CSA Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA is a partnership between a farmer and her community. The community members purchase shares of the farm's seasonal bounty in advance and pick up their shares of the produce on a weekly basis throughout the season.

Why a CSA?

The CSA model is beneficial for both the farmer and community members as the farmer can better plan their crops and harvests and the customer can be assured of fresh, local produce throughout the entire season.

What are my options?

The Quite Contrary Garden offers two CSA membership options:

  • Vegetable & Herb CSA

    • A share of a variety of fresh, local, naturally grown veggies and herbs valued at $35 per week for the length of the season (16 weeks). The produce will vary according to what is in season and ready for harvest that week.

  • Cut Flower CSA

    • An arrangement of a share of fresh, local, naturally grown cut flowers valued at $25 per week for the length of the season (16 weeks). The flowers will vary according to what is in season and ready for harvest that week.

How much does it cost to join the CSA?

  • Vegetable & Herb CSA

    • $35 per week for 16 weeks ($560 per season).

    • $80 deposit paid in advance of season in order to secure your spot (applied toward membership cost).

  • Cut Flower CSA

    • $25 per week for 16 weeks ($400 per season).

    • $80 deposit paid in advance of season in order to secure your spot (applied toward membership cost).

Is your produce chemical free?

All of our flowers, vegetables, and herbs are grown without pesticides, herbicides, and other harmdul chemicals.

When is CSA pickup?

Weekly pickup for both Veggie and Flower CSAs is every Friday evening of the season from 5:30-8:00pm at The Quite Contrary Garden.

What happens if I cannot pickup my share?

Please contact Mary no later than 5 days in advance of pickup day if you are unable to collect your weekly share. Unless prior arrangements have been made, any CSA shares not picked up that week will be forfeited by the member.

What is your refund policy?

The beauty of a CSA is that it ensures the farmer has the support of the community before they plan, seed, plant, grow, and harvest their produce. Due to the perishable nature of local, seasonal produce, we are unable to offer refunds for CSA shares, but we can work with you to direct your shares to another party so they will not go to waste.
